Here are the general steps for performing Hajj in detail:
- Ihram: The first step of Hajj is to enter into the state of Ihram, which is a state of ritual purity. This involves wearing two pieces of white, unstitched cloth for men, and modest clothing that covers the body and head for women. In this state, pilgrims are required to abstain from certain activities, including cutting hair, clipping nails, and sexual relations.
- Arrival in Mecca: Pilgrims arrive in Mecca, where they perform Tawaf around the Kaaba seven times, reciting supplications and prayers. This is the same step as in Umrah.
- Sa'i: After completing Tawaf, the next step is to perform Sa'i, which involves walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa. This is the same step as in Umrah.
- Stay in Mina: Pilgrims then travel to Mina, where they spend the night and engage in worship and prayers.
- Arafat: On the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims travel to the plains of Arafat, where they spend the day in prayer and supplication, seeking forgiveness from Allah.
- Muzdalifah: After sunset, pilgrims travel to Muzdalifah, where they spend the night and engage in worship and prayers.
- Stoning of the Devil: On the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims travel to Jamarat, where they throw seven pebbles at the largest pillar, representing Satan. This is called the stoning of the devil.
- Sacrifice: After the stoning of the devil, pilgrims perform the sacrifice of an animal, usually a sheep or a goat. The meat is then distributed to the poor.
- Shaving or Cutting Hair: After the sacrifice, pilgrims shave or trim their hair, marking the end of the Hajj rituals.
- Tawaf and Sa'i: Pilgrims return to Mecca to perform Tawaf and Sa'i again, marking the completion of the Hajj rituals.
